Elizabeth Chandler organizes the state's first antislavery society. 

Born in Philadelphia, Elizabeth Chandler moved to Lenawee County, Michigan, in 1829 at the age of 22. She supported education for blacks and women and was one of the first female poets to become involved in the anti-slavery movement. She died in 1834 at the age of 27.
