Chrysler began producing the technologically advanced M1 in 1980 at the Lima, Ohio, Tank Plant, and in 1982 at the Detroit Arsenal. Able to travel at 45mph, the M1 saw its first action during the Gulf War. Manned by a crew of four, and powered by a 1,500 horsepower turbine engine, the Abrams was responsible for destroying all Iraqi armored divisions that it met during the four-day allied ground assault.
