Chrysler began producing the technologically
advanced M1 in 1980 at the Lima, Ohio, Tank Plant, and in 1982 at the
Detroit Arsenal. Able to travel at 45mph, the M1 saw its first action during the Gulf War. Manned by a
crew of four, and powered by a 1,500 horsepower turbine engine, the Abrams
was responsible for destroying all Iraqi armored divisions that it met
during the four-day allied ground assault.
